The land area of Boulder Junction is 80.0 square miles in Vilas County. Latitude: 46.09 N., Longitude: 89.69 W. It is 124.2 miles N.E. of Eau Claire, WI and 183.6 miles N.E. of St. Paul, MN. The nearest city with a population of 1,000,000+ is Chicago, IL which is 310.3 miles S.E.

History

The railroad tracks were built in 1903 to cater to the logging industry however the newly formed access attracted fishing and hunting enthusiasts so resorts were built for those tourists. It received electricity in 1925 and five years later, phone service. In 1930 the Civilian Conservation Corps embarked a large scale planting effort and replenished the barren land left in the wake of the booming logging era. Boulder Junction was awarded the official trademark of "Musky Capital of the World" On June 8, 1971 after a 20 year battle with a neighboring community over the title.
