The land area of Land O' Lakes is 83.1 square miles in Vilas County. Latitude: 46.15 N., Longitude: 89.39 W. It is 131.6 miles N.W. of Green Bay, WI and 198.7 miles N.E. of St. Paul, MN. The nearest city with a population of 1,000,000+ is Chicago, IL which is 310.2 miles S.E.
History
During the 1870s the Rudolf Otto Mill was built which sparked an economic growth for the area. In 1905 the mill was succeeded by the Mason-Donaldson Company Mill which burned three years later but it was decided not to rebuild and the town moved east to its present location squarely on the line separating Wisconsin from the upper peninsula of Michigan, under the name of Stateline. Originally established in 1907 as the Town of State Line, the name was changed to the Town of Land O' Lakes in 1948.
